Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in California
Walking is often viewed as a safe activity. In many ways, walking is a reliable, affordable, and healthy method for transportation. Regrettably, not everyone is completely out of harm’s way. Every year, hundreds of pedestrians are fatally injured in accidents throughout the state of California. These accidents are often preventable, yet we continue to witness the distressing outcomes families are forced to endure as a result of negligent and reckless drivers. The unfortunate truth is that the vast majority of pedestrian accidents are completely preventable. Nearly 80% of all traffic-related incidents are caused by driver error. When drivers engage in activities while driving, they are more likely to miss stop signs, red lights, and other objects or people on the road.
Given the increase in technology over the years, we are seeing numerous people injured and killed in crashes caused by drivers who are using cellphones, changing radios, and messing with their navigation devices while operating their vehicles. When careless and negligent drivers cause accidents, the consequences families are forced to endure are substantial. Not only are they left to deal with mental and emotional pain and suffering, but the financial burdens presented to them from lost wages and funeral arrangements are stacking as well. When people lose their lives in pedestrian accidents, their families should reach out to a California wrongful death attorney as soon as possible. Families may be entitled to compensation to help alleviate the financial burdens they face moving forward.
