Berkeley, CA – Chemical Accident on Oxford St Leaves Woman Injured
Berkeley, CA (August 19, 2020) – One woman was hospitalized after being exposed to a harmful chemical in the Berkeley section of Alameda County. Just after 8:10 p.m., on August 18, emergency crews in Alameda County responded to the site of an incident on Oxford Street.
Reports provided by local news sources show that a woman was inside a building located on Oxford Street near the intersection with Berkeley Way when a hazardous chemical spill occurred. The woman sustained injuries as a result of the exposure. She was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Crews remained at the site to determine what the chemical spill was. After some time, specialized fire crews were able to ascertain the nature of the spill and determine that the chemical was ethyl 2-ethyl butanoate. Crews sealed off the room where the spill occurred until the chemicals could be cleared. At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
